The men’s golf team showed off their talent in their season opener this past Saturday, Sept. 15 and Sunday, Sept. 16, by setting new records for the program at the Middlebury College Duke Nelson Invitational in Middlebury, Vermont. Drew finished the tournament with a score of 616, smashing their previous record of 637 and ending the tournament in 13 place out of the 22 teams competing. Head Coach Maura Ballard touched on her team’s progress by saying, “I’m proud of the guys and our finish in such a competitive event. The guys kept their composure and focus throughout the round, and I can't wait to see what we can accomplish this season.” Standout players for the Rangers included Ryan Fitzsimmons (‘21) who tied for 20 overall out of 111 athletes. Lucas Artigliere (’22) and Matthew Singer (’22) turned in strong performances as well in their collegiate debuts.
The men’s golf team continued their successful season run by placing 2 out of 5 teams on Tuesday, Sept. 18 at Galloping Hill Golf Course. The event was defined by the weather, as the team played through heavy rains and had to stop at one point due to lightning. In the end the weather could not stop the Rangers as they beat out FDU, SUNY Old Westbury and NJCU, with Rutgers-Camden taking the title with a score of 304. Drew finished the tournament in second place with a score of 324. Artigliere took 6 place overall out of the 27 athletes with a score of 78. Catch the Rangers’ next tournament on Monday, Oct. 1, at the Muhlenberg Invitational in Allentown, PA.
The women’s team opens play on Sept. 22 and 23 at the Mount Holyoke Invitational in South Hadley, MA.
