The Drew Rangers kicked off Landmark Conference play this week, traveling to Goucher College to take on the Gophers in Baltimore, MD. Goucher kept the game interesting through the first half as they were able to keep the Rangers off the scoreboard, despite allowing seven shots in the half. However, the Rangers were never in any real trouble in this one as their offense broke through in the second half with two goals. Ian Sawicki (‘20) opened the scoring in the 68 minute, finishing off a pass forward Max Correa (’19), who would later add the insurance goal for the Rangers in minute 89.
For the Rangers’ defense it was dominance as usual as they allowed only six shots all night. It might have been because of this stifling defense that the game got a bit physical and saw Goucher players receive three cards, including a red card for defender Samuel Spencer. Frustration should be seen as the biggest compliment to this Rangers team as it’s well on its way to dominating the Landmark Conference yet again.
The Rangers will be back in action, this time at home, against The Catholic University of America at 1 p.m. in Ranger Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 29. The Rangers were scheduled to play NYU this week, but were rained out.
