After their non conference matchup at NYU on Tuesday, Sept. 25, was postponed due to inclement weather and unplayable field conditions, the men’s soccer team was back in action at Ranger Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 29, against Catholic University.
Despite dominating possession in the first half, the Rangers were a bit shaky to start as Catholic assumed a 1-0 lead 15 minutes into match play on an own goal off an attempt by Drew to clear the ball. Aidan Cserhat (‘20) later leveled the score by placing the ball into the near post after defender Ryan LaRocca (‘21) played a long pass to Cserhat at the top of the box.
Cserhat ended the deadlock in the 79 minute off a behind midfield pass from Matt Asante (‘20) that deflected off a Catholic defender. Cserhat collected the ball on the right side and shot a rocket from outside the box into the net.
Drew swept the Landmark Conference of the Week Honors. LaRocca captured the defensive award, while Cserhat secured his s
econd offensive nod this season. Cserhat was also tabbed the Eastern College Athletic Conference Division III Metro Region Player of the Month. Cserhat leads the team and the Landmark Conference in both goals and points with 21. He has racked up nine goals and dished out three assists. He has also registered three two-goal games and scored three game-winning goals on the season.
The Rangers’ next game will be this Saturday at 1 p.m. in Elizabethtown, PA to take on the Blue Jays in a conference matchup. Drew will look to stay undefeated in conference and stay atop the Landmark in their upcoming matchup.
