Field Hockey Falls to River Hawks in Season Closer

November 2, 2018

On Friday, Oct. 26, Drew field hockey resumed the last 1:41 of the second overtime period for their match against Sage College, which had been suspended due to lightning. In field hockey a team cannot tie, and as a result the game went into a shootout after neither team got a shot off in the remaining time of regulation. In the shootout, Sage converted the go ahead goal in the third round, while Drew was unable to convert in the fourth or fifth round. Sage departed Ranger Stadium with a 3-2 victory.

There was no rest for the Rangers, who in a quick turnaround traveled to Susquehanna University the morning of Saturday, Oct. 27 to close out their season and Landmark Conference play. The first half of the contest saw Charlotte Grimm (‘21) scoring her first career collegiate goal off a pass from Mallory Holson (‘22). Both sides went into the half deadlocked at one.

Unfortunately, the River Hawks would breakthrough, scoring goals in the 41, 52 and 57 minutes to win the contest 4-1. Susquehanna held a 30-2 shot advantage which left Ryann Callaghan (‘19) busy in her final collegiate appearance, in which she tallied 12 saves. The match marked the season close for Drew who ended the year with a 2-16 record overall.
