Drew men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams made quite the splash on Saturday, Nov. 3 as they played host to Marywood University and Susquehanna University. The men’s squad swept the competition in the tri-meet, claiming a 198-72 victory over the Marywood Pacers and a 163-116 win over the Susquehanna River Hawks. The women’s squad secured 184-109 win over Marywood for their first victory of the season, while falling 170-126 to last year's Landmark Conference Champions Susquehanna.
Classmates Mal Vishwanath (‘20) and Stephanie Cushman (‘20) led the Rangers, each prevailing in three events a piece. Vishwanath won in all freestyle categories, touching in at 54.52 in the 100, 56.63 in the 200, and 5:16.68 in the 500. Cushman earned first in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:01.50, the 200 backstroke in 2:15.00, and the 200 individual medley in 2:22.20.
Michael Ma (‘20) won the same three events as Cushman for the men’s side. Ma clocked in at 1:01.82 in the 100 breaststroke, 2:16.35 in the 200 breaststroke, and 2:00.14 in the 200 individual medley.
Jake Zajdzinski (‘22) claimed two victories and contributed to a third on the day. Zajdzinski won the 50 freestyle touching the wall in 21.91 and the 100 freestyle in 48.59. He also swam on the victorious 400 freestyle relay team that set a Landmark season best time of 3:17.99. The freshman earned Landmark Conference Athlete of the Week honors for his efforts.
Both teams will have two weeks to prepare for their next meet when they host another tri meet on Saturday, Nov. 17 with Arcadia University and Elizabethtown College.
