The Drew University baseball team went 2-2 in a busy week of play which included a three-game series against Moravian College over the weekend. The Rangers’ season record stands at 5-6.
On March 16, the Rangers split with Moravian in their Landmark Conference and home opener. Drew dropped the opening game 5-3 in 10 innings before capturing a 5-2 victory in the second game of the day. Mike Pettigrew (‘19) went 4-for-7 at the plate to lead the Rangers. Pitcher Jeff Serin (‘21) tallied a career-high eight strikeouts and walked only two during his fourth career complete game, while Pete Violante (‘20) allowed just two runs while striking out two over six innings in the opener. In the second game of the day, Matthew Lange (‘20) went 2-for-3 with a double. The Rangers’ victory marked the first conference win for first-year head coach, John Fugett.
The next day, Drew faced an 11-4 setback after Moravian scored eight times over the last three innings. Eric DiPietro (‘19) led the Rangers with a 2-for-4 finish and a pair of RBIs. Max Felsenstein (‘20) went 2-for-5 with two runs scored. Pitcher Grant Purpura (‘22) yielded five runs and two walks while striking out three in his 6 1/3 innings of play.

On March 19, Drew jumped to an early 7-2 lead and held on for a 7-6 victory against William Paterson University. Pitcher Jendy Castillo (‘19) scattered five hits and allowed only two runs while walking two and striking out two to pick up the win. Jayson Mitch’s (‘20) three hits and three RBIs were both career-highs, and Jon Cocchio (‘20) went 2-for-3 with two runs and a double. Pitchers Brandon Radd (‘20) and Davis Fouts (‘19) each tossed two innings of relief. Fouts induced a game-ending fly-out and earned his second career save.
The Rangers look to improve their record this Saturday, March 23 at 3:30 p.m. when they take on Swarthmore College.
