Early season woes continued to plague the men’s lacrosse team during their Saturday, March 16 contest against Swarthmore College. After a defensive start to the game, Drew found the net first to break the stalemate off a goal from J.T. Pojero (‘19). Swarthmore countered the Rangers’ attack to take a 3-1 lead to end the quarter. Kevin Goettlich (‘20) brought the match within one in the second quarter, but the Garnet took off on another three-goal stretch to take a 6-2 lead at halftime.
The Rangers offense was held scoreless by Swarthmore for the remainder of regulation. The Garnet ran away with the game, scoring five more goals to win the game 11-2. Despite the loss, goalie Nate Sanders (‘20) made sixteen saves.
Following a couple of days to regroup at practice, Drew returned to Ranger Stadium to face off in a non-conference matchup against Immaculata University. The first signs of spring seemed to propel the Rangers as they took command of a 6-1 lead at the end of the first quarter. Drew continued its offensive onslaught pushing the lead to 10-3 going into the break.

In the third quarter, the Mighty Macs were unable to stifle the Rangers’ attack as they improved their lead to 14-4. Drew showed no mercy in the final quarter as the lead moved to 16-7, and when the final whistle blew it gave them their first victory of the season. Nicholas D’Eufemia (‘22), Nicholas Polacek (‘20) and Goettlich powered the Rangers’ offense with four goals apiece.
Drew men’s lacrosse will return to action when they travel to Delaware Valley on Saturday, March 23 to take on the Aggies at 3 p.m. in a non-conference battle.
