Men’s and women’s cross country teams ran at the Ramapo Season Opener on Saturday, Aug. 30 at Deer Path Park in Flemington, NJ to begin their season. The men’s team only had three runners racing which, unfortunately, was not the required minimum of five to earn a team score. However, Michael Kitsopoulos (’20) anchored the team on the 5K course in a field of 121 to place 58th in 19:32. Van Holson (’23) ran a 23:58 to place 100th in his first collegiate meet, with Neelesh Kantheti (’22) 17 places behind in 27:55.
The women’s team earned fifth place in the field of nine teams, overcoming SUNY Maritime, FDU-Florham, Sarah Lawrence and New Jersey City. Violet Kimble (’21) paced Drew on the 5,000-meter course with a time of 23:39 which was good for 26 out of 88 runners. Aubrey Johnson (’22) was on her heels at 24:44 for place 28. Carly Orent (’22), Maya Barnes (’23), Samantha Villanueva (’22), Mollie Ankrom (’21), Marissa Berrios (’22 ) and Arya Bondre (’21) also competed for the team.
