Meet the Coordinator Behind Fun Nights in the Forest

September 20, 2019

Meet Carmine Biancamano, Drew’s new Coordinator of Residential Engagement for Late Night and Weekend Programming. Although Biancamano has been at Drew since March, many people do not know him or his role on campus. Biancamano works closely with Meghan McHugh, the Director of Student Activities, to plan different events on campus. He is in charge of programming for The Pub and is also the advisor for “The Acorn.”

Biancamano attended undergrad at Drew where he majored in History and minored in Russian Studies. After graduating in 2014, he went on to get his master’s degree in Student Affairs in Higher Education at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Before returning to Drew he worked at the University of Colorado - Boulder and Methodist University in North Carolina serving in roles similar to the one he now holds at Drew.

When asked what activities he wants to bring back from his time here as a student, Biancamano responded, “Honestly, a lot of my favorite programs are still here: Holiday Ball, First Annual Picnic and Last Saturday.”

When asked about his return to Drew, Biancamano said, “Drew was the reason I found this field, and I wanted to give back to the community that gave me so much.” He also mentioned that he wanted to be closer to his family.

The activity he says he is most excited about is the Drew Bronx Zoo this Saturday Sept. 21, from 8 p.m. to midnight. This event will feature a petting zoo and stuff-a-plush. “It’s a fun collaboration with the DSEMs and the Office of Globalization for the whole weekend. It’s a big themed weekend for New York City events,” Biancamano said. “Plus, petting zoos are fun.”

In his free time, Biancamano enjoys playing video games. “I use it to connect with my friends from home or just to relax after work,” Biancamano said. He often plays Super Smash Bros with  his “Smash Squad,” which consists of Resident Assistants as well as other CRE’s. He also enjoys playing arguably bad pranks on the Student Engagement staff.
