Leah Dentale (’21) and the Drew University women’s soccer team fell 4-0 to Catholic in a Landmark Conference matchup on Saturday, Oct. 5 down in Washington, D.C. The Rangers currently hold a 5-6 season record after a loss to Rutgers Newark on Wednesday, Oct. 9 and a 1-1 record in the conference. Dentale played an essential role in the Ranger’s most recent victory against William Patterson on Oct. 2 as she fed the corner kick that would result in the game-clinching goal in their 2-1 win.
Dentale is an Economics major and a Statistics minor. She was drawn to Drew because it both allowed her to play soccer and take advantage of the opportunities within the business and economics departments. Although her biggest challenge as a student-athlete has been time-management in order to give her full effort to soccer and school, she said that the team has held a family dynamic since pre-season and that they support each other. Dentale emphasized, “We remind ourselves at the end of every practice and start of every game that we are a family and we are in this together.”

Her most memorable moment as a Ranger was when she overcame her lull of not scoring with a two-goal performance against Delaware Valley. Despite some tough losses, she is proud of her team for maintaining a fighting spirit through each hurtle or setback. “We had some tough battles against top-rated teams but we always keep our heads high and fight hard.'' She added, “Coming off a loss against Catholic this past weekend, we need to come back as a family and fight together to win the next conference game in order to keep our momentum moving forward.” Before she graduates, Dentale hopes to win a conference championship with her team.
So far this season, Dentale has collected four goals and two assists, totaling 10 goals and 12 assists in her collegiate career. Next up for Dentale and the rest of the women’s soccer team is a conference matchup at home against Elizabethtown on Saturday, Oct. 12 at 4 p.m.
