The Drew University men’s basketball team continued their dominant reign by securing a victory against Landmark Conference rivals Juniata College on Saturday, Feb. 1. After a tight first quarter with seven lead changes, the Rangers secured a 17-16 lead and did not look back. They secured a 10-point lead at the end of the first half, and extended their lead to 47-34 with 15 minutes left on the clock. However, the Eagles responded with a 12-0 run to cut the deficit to 47-46. The Rangers rallied with a 14-0 run to secure another 10-point lead, and ultimately secured an 80-66 victory. Leading the Rangers were David Gervase (’22) and Riley Collins (’20), with 27 and 25 points, respectively.

The Rangers returned to action on Wednesday, Feb. 5, in another Landmark Conference match against Moravian College. This time around, the Rangers led from start to finish, scoring an incredible 15 points in the opening two minutes, and held a 46-38 advantage over the Greyhounds to end the first half. The Rangers ultimately secured a dominant 82-68 victory against Moravian. The match proved to be a momentous one, as the Rangers set a school record with 13 blocked shots. Drew is now ranked first in the Landmark Conference along with the University of Scranton, and seventh in Division III for blocked shots. Additionally, Malachi Walker (’21) is now the third-leading shot blocker in the nation. The Rangers were led by Collins, who posted 21 points and seven assists. Michael Boice (’20) scored 13 points, and Gervase scored 12 points.
Shortly after the victory against the Greyhounds, Howard McBurnie Jr. (’23) was honoured as the ECAC Division III Metro Rookie of the month. McBurnie leads the team in rebounds, averaging 8 boards per game, making him the fourth-highest rebounder in the Landmark Conference.
The Rangers return to action on Saturday, Feb. 8, as they face off against Goucher College in another Landmark Conference match.
